OLD MANOR CAFÉ at the Hotel Seitner Hof in Pullach – Do you like cake? And waffles? Coffee too? – Perfect! Then I have the ultimate tip for you in the Munich area: the Alte Gutshof-Café (Old Manor House Café) inside the 4-star Hotel Seitner Hof in Pullach, which has 40 rooms. The hotel has been family-run for 20 years and, along with the café, is located in a roughly 200-year-old, listed building. It boasts a fantastic sunny terrace and invites you to linger near the Isar River. Sounds tempting, doesn't it? So I headed straight there, made sure I had room in my stomach, and stopped by the Alte Gutshof-Café's cake buffet.

In my opinion, Pullach is one of the most beautiful towns in the Munich area. Just a 20-minute drive away, you're in the heart of home to around 10,000 residents. Pullach boasts several culinary gems, one of which is undoubtedly the Alte Gutshof-Café. It's located next to the "Alte Brennerei" restaurant, which also belongs to the Hotel Seitner Hof but is leased separately. Upon entering the café, you're greeted by a sunny terrace where, weather permitting, the finest cakes, pastries, strudels, and waffles are served. The café itself seats 45 guests inside, is rustically and comfortably furnished, and its centerpiece – the well-stocked cake buffet – is sure to entice you to linger. Eight different cakes (from the Wittmann confectionery), exclusive homemade waffles, apple strudel, and (depending on the season) plum cake are all featured on the buffet daily. You choose from the buffet and order at your table. The service is also provided by the waitstaff, so you don't have to carry the cakes to your table yourself. The drinks menu lists a wide variety of hot beverages in addition to soft drinks, including Dinzler coffee in various styles and a broad selection of Ronnefeldt teas. Whether you're in the mood for a cool refreshment in a glass or a warming treat like tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, there's something to suit every taste. The same applies to the daily selection of cakes, as choosing just one isn't easy.

Believe me: Every cake and torte lover will find something to their liking here, and there's a perfect treat for everyone. Whether you're in the mood for a sweet bee sting cake with an almond topping, a Florentine torte with a chocolate coating, a rum truffle torte with delicate cream, or perhaps a juicy apple tart, a delicate raspberry cake, a fruity apricot tart, or a sumptuous poppy seed cheesecake – the buffet has it all. A classic Sachertorte, apple strudel, or plum cake are also available. The choice won't be easy, and to make it even more difficult, there are also homemade waffles. 😉 These are the café's signature dish, I was told when I inquired. They're not only prepared fresh to order, but also enriched with a little buttermilk in the batter. This makes the waffles at the Alte Gutshof-Café wonderfully soft and fluffy inside, despite their intentionally crisp exterior. It's served with homemade applesauce made from apples grown in the hotel's garden. Amazing, right? Alternatively, you can choose hot raspberries, hot mixed berries, or cherries. An apple waffle with vanilla ice cream or sauce offers a creative change of pace from the waffle selection. In addition, there's a weekly special (currently: onion tart and new wine for €9.50), which adds even more variety to the menu.

My personal test

Eating cake alone is nice, but eating it together is even better. So I brought my companion along to try it out at the Alte Gutshof Café. After the usual power struggle at the buffet 😉, I opted for the homemade waffles, while my companion chose a delicious poppy seed cheesecake, which seemed to be shouting "Eat me!" from the moment we arrived. We found a cozy spot – plenty of natural light, a good view of the café and the buffet 😉 – and waited for our hot drinks (a Dinzler cappuccino and a Ronnefeldt rooibos vanilla tea) as well as the waffles and cake. Since everything was already prepared, or in this case, the waffles only needed to be baked, the wait was a mere five minutes. Admittedly, the café wasn't packed during our visit, but even when it's busier, you can expect prompt service – after all, the cakes are all ready to eat on the buffet. The waffles were delicious. Baked slightly firmer, they are beautifully fluffy inside. The applesauce was particularly delicious; as a non-cream eater, I left the accompanying cream to my companion. Everything is presented very attractively and with care. The poppy seed cheesecake looked fantastic and tasted just as good. Nice and airy, not too heavy, and perfect for cake enjoyment. The slices are a fair size. It's served as a large waffle, cut diagonally in half.

I'll definitely be back. Firstly, because I really like the area, the staff were very friendly (thanks again!), and of course, everything tasted absolutely delicious. Anyone who thinks you can't go wrong with cakes, tarts, and the like is mistaken. It takes a lot to run a well-functioning café that consistently meets high quality standards day after day. Thumbs up!

Interesting facts about the café and hotel

Be sure to take a look around during your visit. At the Alte Gutshof-Café, you're not just sitting in any old café, but in the traditional parlor of a historic, former three-sided farmstead. The building and large parts of it are listed as historical monuments, so you can admire the old walls while enjoying your cake. Plenty of light wood, fresh flowers on the tables, the sunny summer terrace, and the tranquility of the house and café create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The Isar River, perfect for a post-cake stroll, is just a stone's throw away. During the week, the café is a popular destination for many regulars who appreciate the quality of the cake buffet. On weekends, the Alte Gutshof-Café also attracts numerous day-trippers, tourists, and those seeking peace and quiet. It's not surprising, yet still impressive, that this small café sells up to 10 cakes, pastries, and strudels a day. Reservations are not accepted for weekend visits. During the week, reservations are possible in advance, but in my opinion not necessary. Reservations are not possible on weekends.
