Van Hoa | Delivery service review at pizza.de My food delivery service review series continues after my short break due to a recent stay abroad. So it was time once again for me to put my feet up on the sofa and search online for good food that would be delivered right to my door. I did just that on pizza.de and found what I was looking for at Van Hoa. Van Hoa delivers sushi and Vietnamese dishes from Munich-Sendling. I browsed the menu a bit and decided to place an order. The selection includes a wide variety of maki, nigiri, sushi sets, special offers on sushi, soups and salads, wok and noodle dishes, as well as house specialties and desserts. One slightly unusual thing: uramaki (sausage rolls) are not available as a separate order. They can only be ordered as part of a set menu or via a special offer.

Selection and review of the dishes at Van Hoa

My companion and I were craving sushi. I can't stress this enough: sushi is in my blood, and there isn't a day I couldn't eat it. 😉 It's a very light and pleasant dish that can even be eaten right before bed without feeling too full. At least, that's my opinion. So, I chose the "Fun" sushi menu for my companion, which included five nigiri (tuna, salmon, mackerel, shrimp, and squid), six salmon and six tuna maki rolls (for €18.90), and five fried shrimp as a starter (for €7.20). At just under €20, the menu isn't exactly a bargain. However, it's worth noting that the nigiri are significantly larger than usual. While a normal-sized nigiri can be devoured in one, maybe two bites, you can easily take three or four bites here. There was also a huge amount of fish (tuna and salmon) included in the menu.

For myself, I chose one of my favorites: two different nigiri – one with salmon (sake nigiri for €2.90) and one with tuna (maguro nigiri for €3.20) – also a bit pricey due to their larger-than-average size. I also ordered "Negisake Maki" with chopped salmon and leek (6 pieces for €3.90) and "Negitoro Maki" with chopped tuna and leek (6 pieces for €4.20). As mentioned, I would have liked to order an extra roll of urimaki, but it wasn't included in the set menu. The maki were all tasty, but not the best I've ever had. They were rolled very neatly and were nice and firm. One roll, about 20 cm long, fell off before I could put it in my mouth, and it stayed in its shape. That's definitely a plus. The fish was certainly fresh, and the sushi was freshly prepared. The breaded prawns were also very delicious, and although it wasn't my appetizer, I pilfered two and ate them with sweet and sour sauce.

Further food offerings

I can definitely recommend Van Hoa for sushi. If you're in the mood for something warm, they also offer various wok dishes (from €8.90 to €10.90), Vietnamese noodle dishes (from €9.90), and house specialties such as dishes with squid, king prawns, Vietnamese water spinach, or even fried noodles (from €8.90 to €18.90). This also shows that the sushi menu is one of Van Hoa's more expensive options, and you can get a satisfying meal for as little as €10 per person. I don't usually mention a minimum order value, as it varies depending on your location. I personally prefer this to the delivery service not being displayed because it's too far away. For example, after logging in, I see delivery services with a minimum order value of €60, while they deliver from €15 for you.

Delivery time and personal conclusion

All in all, we were satisfied with our food. Less satisfied – once again – with the wait time. This is never the fault of the platform itself – so you don't get me wrong – but rather with the individual delivery services. Van Hoa itself took over 65 minutes, and the driver – as is almost always the case when I call to check – was supposed to arrive in three minutes according to the phone service. 😉 It ended up being another 15 minutes, and we really had to wait a very long time. I wouldn't stop ordering again just for that reason, but I'm still annoyed about it afterward, since we paid over €40.
